Understanding the significance of the Table of Showbread and the Menorah; living by Gods  “WORD” and being His “LIGHT” in this world.

The Table of Showbread: Representing the Word of God

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 8:31-32 Jesus then said to the Jews who had believed in him, “If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free”

The table of showbread with 2 stacks of 6 loaves of bread; was also called the bread of presence of the Lord. On the seventh day, the Sabbath, the priests in the holy place ate the loaves.

Leviticus  24:9 And it shall be for Aaron and his sons, and they shall eat it in a holy place, since it is for him a most holy portion out of the offerings by fire to the Lord, a perpetual due.

Bread, that we need for physical sustenance is likened to the word of God, which is also needed to sustain our spiritual life. Just like we need to partake bread on a daily basis; so also should we partake the word of God on a daily basis.

Matthew 4:4 Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God”.

John 6:51 ”I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever. This bread is My flesh, which I will give for the life of the world”.

Jesus said that everyone who hears Gods word and lives by it is like a wise man. God’s words are alive, and when we live by his words, it transforms us. We should use His words to guide us like a compass, pointing us in the right directions; His words are the beginning and the end.

Matthew 7:24-25 “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house upon the rock; and the rain fell and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock.

The Lord yearns for our fellowship. The table of showbread represents our communion and fellowship with the Bread of Life.

John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth; we have beheld His glory, glory as of the only Son, from the Father.

Revelation 3:20 Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with Me.

The Menorah: Representing the Light of God

2 Corinthians 4:6  For it is God who said “Let light shine out of darkness” who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.

It was in the light from the Menorah that the priest performed his duties before God. There was no natural light in the tabernacle.

The Menorah, the Centre Shaft represents Jesus Christ and we are the 6 branches; three on either side. This signifies our union and relationship with Christ.

John 15:5-10 I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit; for apart from Me you can do nothing. If a man does not abide in Me, he is cast forth as a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire and burned.  If you abide in Me and My words abide in you, ask whatever your will, and it shall be done for you.  By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples”.

As long as Christ was in the world, He was the light of the world. He still is, but not in a fleshly body. He meets individuals – like you and me, to shine His light in our dark world.

Matthew 5:14, 16 “You are the light of the world. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father  who is in heaven”.

Matthew 4:16  “The people who sat in darkness have seen a great Light. And for those who sat in the region and shadow of death, Light has dawned”.

John 14:21 He that hath My commandments, and keepeth them: is he that loveth Me: and he that loveth Me, shall be loved of My Father: and I will love him, and will show Mine own self to him.

PSALM 119:130-131 The unfolding of thy words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple. With open mouth I pant, because I long for thy commandments
