The Tabernacle-Vaastu Shastra

When God saw the earth was corrupt, He sent the floods to put an end to all flesh. He then made a covenant with Noah never to destroy man again. God our Father reveals His plan of salvation time and again to re-establish the broken relationship between Him and man. I was led to understanding the significance of the Tabernacle and its similarities with the directional bondage that some cultures are still bound to. Everything we see in the tabernacle was a picture of Jesus Christ who gave up his life for us on the Cross, thus becoming the great Mediator between God and man.

  • Vaastu Shastra suggests a square or rectangular shaped house brings good health, fortune and overall success to its residents, as it equally balances the flow of positive energy around the house.

Exodus Chapters 25-27 God commands Moses to build the Tabernacle, its courtyard and its furnishings; and all its given measurements are square or rectangular in shape.

Revelation 21:16 The city lies foursquare, Its length as same as its breadth; and he measured the city with his rod, twelve thousand stadia; its length, its breadth and height are all equal.

  • Vaastu Shastra considers the North-East direction to be the dwelling place of God which is highly charged with divine energies. This area should be kept clean, preferably a temple or prayer room to absorb all its divine blessings. Any ritual uncleanliness in that area of the house is considered unfavourable and brings misfortune for its residents.

The Table of Showbread displaying the bread of presence was set in the North East corner; at the entrance into the Tabernacle before the Lord at all times.

Exodus 40 22:23 He put the table in the tent of meeting, on the north side of the Tabernacle, outside the veil, and set the bread in order on it before the Lord; as the Lord had commanded Moses.

Exodus 25:30 You shall set the bread of the Presence on the table before Me always.

Leviticus 24:5-9 “And you shall take fine flour and bake twelve cakes of it. And you shall set them in two rows, six in a row, upon the table of pure gold. And you shall put pure frankincense with each row that it may go with the bread as a memorial portion to be offered by fire to the Lord. Every Sabbath day Aaron shall set it in order before the Lord continually, on behalf of the people of Israel as a covenant for ever. And it shall be for Aaron and his sons, that they shall eat it in a holy place; since it is for him a most holy portion out of the offerings by fire to the LORD, a perpetual due”.

Leviticus 22:1-3 The Lord said to Moses, “Tell Aaron and his sons to treat with respect the sacred offerings the Israelites consecrate to me, so they will not profane my holy name. I am the Lord“Say to them: ‘For the generations to come, if any of your descendants is ceremonially unclean and yet comes near the sacred offerings that the Israelites consecrate to the Lord, that person must be cut off from my presence. I am the Lord.

{Reference from books on Vaastu Shastra: “A predominant feature in the house of Cancer patients; there is always a defective North-East; and a strained second sector for cancer to occur”. Any disturbance in the divine energies of the North East Sector causes an imbalance in our lives. “A defective North-east; and South/Southwest sector – Cancer of the Uterus”; the Lord stood by me right from the start of this journey; 2 weeks prior to commencement of construction; I underwent an emergency hysterectomy}.

  • Vaastu Shastra suggests the South-East direction is ruled by fire and should have no openings to put out the fire that gives one strength to overcome all difficulties in life. The southern sector of ones home should be covered and well enclosed to ensure our overall well being.

The Menorah in the Tabernacle was placed in the South/ South East corner.

All day and all night, whether anyone was present or not, these seven lamps constantly lit up the glory of the Holy Place and especially on the table of the showbread as a reminder that Gods Presence is always with His people.

Exodus 25: 37-40 “And you shall make the seven lamps for it; and the lamps shall be set up so as to give light upon the space in front of it. Its snuffers and their trays shall be of pure gold. A talent of pure gold shall it be made, with all these utensils. And see that you make them after the pattern for them, which is being shown to you on the mountain.

Exodus 40 24:25 He put the lamp stand in the tent of meeting, opposite the table on the south side of the tabernacle, and set up the lamps before the Lord, as the Lord had commanded Moses.

Exodus 27: 20-21 And you shall command the people of Israel that they bring you pure beaten olive for the light, that the lamp may be set up to burn continually. In the tent of meeting, outside the veil which is before the testimony, Aaron and his sons shall tend it from evening to morning before the Lord. It shall be a statute forever to be observed throughout their generations by the people of Israel.

  • Vaastu Shastra believes that the Center is ruled by the creator of the universe and is the most powerful and holiest zone of the house, thus it should be kept empty and clear; preferably an open courtyard to let in the powerful and divine energies. Any irreverence in this area is considered unfavorable.

The Altar of Incense is in the Center of the Tabernacle.

Exodus 30: 7-9 Aaron shall burn fragrant incense on it, every morning when he dresses the lamps he shall burn it, and when Aaron sets up the lamps in the evening, he shall burn it, a perpetual incense before the Lord throughout your generations. You shall offer no unholy incense thereon, nor burnt offering, nor cereal offering; and you shall pour no libation thereon.

Exodus 30: 34-38 The Lord said to Moses, “Take sweet spices, stacte, and onycha, and galbanum, sweet spices with pure frankincense (of each shall there be an equal part), and make an incense blended as by the perfumer, seasoned with salt, pure and holy. And you shall beat some of it very small, and put part of it before the testimony in the tent of meeting where I shall meet with you; it shall be for you most holy. And the incense which you shall make according to its composition, you shall not make for yourselves. It shall be for you holy to the Lord. Whoever makes any like it to use as perfume shall be cut off from his people”.

Leviticus 10: 1-2 Now Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each took his censer, and put fire in it, and laid incense on it, and offered unholy fire before the Lord, such as He had not commanded them. And fire came forth from the presence of the Lord and devoured them, and they died before the Lord.

  • According to Vaastu Shastra the West, South West and Northwest directions bring stability in life, and the more closed and elevated these areas are, they strengthen the residents of the house.

The “Most Holy Place”, the Ark of the Covenant and the Mercy Seat are placed at the back of the Tabernacle covered by the curtain. On top of it stood two cherubim (angels) at the two ends, facing each other. The cherubim, symbols of God’s divine presence and power, were facing downward toward the ark with outstretched wings that covered the atonement cover. The whole structure was beaten out of one piece of pure gold. The atonement cover was God’s dwelling place in the tabernacle. It was His throne, flanked by angels.

Exodus 25:22 God said to Moses: “There I will meet with you, and from above the mercy seat, from between the two cherubim that are upon the ark of the Testimony, I will speak with you of all that I will give you in commandment for the people of Israel”.

Hebrews 9: 6-7 When everything had been arranged like this, the priests entered regularly into the outer room to carry on their ministry. But only the high priest entered the inner room, and that only once a year, and never without blood, which he offered for himself and for the sins the people had committed in ignorance.

Deuteronomy 23:14Because the Lord your God walks in the midst of your camp, to save you and give up your enemies before you; therefore your camp must be holy, that He may not see anything indecent among you, and turn away from you”.

The strict regulations and consequences of worshipping in the Tabernacle; the placement of the sacred furnishings in specific cardinal directions,  though  very similar  to Vaastu Shastra; were all part of the first covenant. But when Christ came He went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not made with human hands, nor a part of this creation.

Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, since a death has occurred which redeems them from the transgressions of sins committed under the first covenant… so Christ having been offered once to bear the sins of many will appear a second time, not to deal with sin, but to save those who are eagerly waiting for Him … Hebrews 9
